Higher Institute for Nursing Sciences – ISSI (Kinshasa, DR Congo)

Project summary: contributing to the professional integration of young Congolese women and improve the country’s health system. The ISSI delivers higher education in nursing sciences, which is officially recognised by the State. Receiving this training has a cost that is not accessible to all. This is why IRIF, education promotors supports the Higher Institute in Nursing Sciences (ISSI) via a sponsorship system for students in a financially difficult situation.
Beneficiaries: 50 girls from the DR Congo, between 18 and 25, who live in poverty. They’re from Kinshasa and other parts of the country.

- – Local partner : L’Institut Supérieur en Sciences Infirmières (ISSI). ISSI offers high-level theoretical and practical education, supported by high-performance teaching material and internship periods in a professional environment. Since its foundation in 1996, more than 100 young Congolese women from all over the country are trained each year.

– Femmes d’Europe, donating books for the ISSI library and blackboards for the classrooms.

How can you help?
Sponsor a nursing student, the scholarship is 360€ per student. You can choose a yearly, quarterly (75€), or monthly (25€) payment.

My name is Lusamba Thérèse, a freshman at ISSI. I was born into a family of nine children (six girls and three boys). There are eight of us because the eldest died. My father, who was paying for my education, died on the fourth day of the academic year and my mother does not have a job that allows her to take full charge of my education. With the help of a scholarship I can now study at the ISSI and I could later work as a nurse.
